Sponsor | alice44 | Oct 10, 2007 1:29am | I was wondering if any one has an idea why one cat rubs his scent glands -- cheeks mostly, all over every corner in the house and another does not.
I am trying to figure out my cats relationship, and am wondering if it has to do with their status or is related to gender (former gender) or is more a personality trait or what. Sam rubs on everything all the time especially when he first enters a room. Small only does it occasionally. |

My previous cat also a girl, did it more than Small but not like Sam. |

here, the dog Jess is subordinate to the cat Joe. Joe does all the scent marking round here:)
on the other hand, when I had 3 cats, boss Walter did the marking, other boss Fanny didn't, and neither did big soppy Nelson. and it varies from animal to animal. |

poor Sam, he is almost too afraid to go out sometimes -- he likes all the neighborhood cats, but he does not cope with the outside NOISE.
Sam is the first male cat I have had since I was a kid and poor Mouse had lots of troubles! |

they all have their quirks just like us. Joe won't take a piece of meat from my hand, but if I drop it he gets stuck in straight away. the others didn't mess around like that! |

I do tell him off, but he does not listen.
If I were a sadist my house would be vacuumed.
Edit additional question
My Sam is definitely giving Small a hard time. I would say it appears he is making as if to mount her. They are both neutered and his behaviour is driving her batty. He licks her and then bites her and jumps on her. She hisses. She is the "boss" but he is more than twice as big and more than twice as bouncy. Has anyone ever heard of this happening and what the heck can I do? |
